Scuba Diving in Kenya with www.godiving.org
Scuba diving in Kenya takes place in 4 main areas: Lamu in the north, Watamu in the centre and Diani Beach and Mombasa in the south. There are marine parks covering all areas for diving.
Lamu is not frequently visited and has only a handful of scuba diving centres. But the reefs around the 7 islands are good quality.
Scuba diving in Watamu-Malindi Marine Park is usually in the 15m-20m range. Few sites go beyond 30m. Most of the scuba diving is drift dives with pelagics possible - including whale sharks and manta rays.
From Watamu town has a good number of dive sites where the coral is protected. Again, whale sharks and manta rays are sometimes around, as well as sharks and turtles.
Monbasa's reefs aren't generally popular, so most scuba diving from this area is in the offshore marine park.
Diana beach has good facilities for scuba diving and its own reef system. Turtles, grouper and rays are often about, but the dive centres are aimed more at the tourists visiting the beachc than providing a scuba diving holiday.
