We are a new Scuba Diving Center in the Algarve Portugal. We offer a broad range of diving experiences and provide courses of all ranges. With PADI, learning is fun. Every PADI course is supported with professional materials. These often include high quality manuals and DVDs or videos making learning easier. All included in our course fees. We seek the maximum safety and fun for those who dive with us.

Diving in Portugal

Situated in the southwest corner of Europe, Portugal comprises the western part of the Iberian Peninsula. The landscape of the country is extremely diverse and visitors can experience everything from relaxed beach breaks to vibrant city excursions or challenging hiking and outdoor sports in Portugal's many green spaces. The country borders Spain to the east and north and the North Atlantic Ocean to the west. In addition to the mainland, Portugal also controls the islands of the Azores and Madeira, both popular tourist destinations in their own right. So when you are visiting Europe and you want to do a last minute travel from cheapoair, head out to Portugal.

Thanks to its location and extensive coastlines, Portugal is the perfect location for diving and with so many diverse sites to choose from there are plenty of options for divers of all levels. The warm waters of the Azores, a Portuguese archipelago 1,500 kilometres from Lisbon, make this one of the best areas in Europe for diving. Here you will find both tropical and Atlantic fish species as well as an abundance of dolphins, especially in the summer months. Divers in the Azores can expect to see bottle nose dolphins, manta rays, turtles, morays and even humpback whales. The ancient geological events that formed the islands also created large underwater caves and rock formations that make for some unique dives sites. Experienced divers can also visit deep underwater lagoons and try some fascinating wreck dives. Night dives are an incredible experience in the Azores due to the large numbers of shrimps, nudibranchs, anemones and bioluminescent plankton.

The region around Lisbon and central Portugal offers some great dive sites for all levels. In this area you can try reef dives, wrecks and deep sea diving so experienced divers will find lots of challenging opportunities. For beginners this is also a good place to learn as there are several accredited diving schools offering taster sessions or full PADI courses. Some of the best sites in the area include the Berlengas Islands marine park, accessible from Peniche, Cabo Espichal, which contains the wreck of an old Nigerian cargo ship and Pedra da Lagoa. A wide range of marine life inhabits this area and divers can expect to see leatherback turtles, beluga whales, octopus and manta rays.

For more experienced divers interested in wreck diving Northern Portugal is the place to go. Undoubtedly the most famous spot is the site of the World War II German U-boat U1277 which was deliberately sunk in 1945 after the Armistice was signed. The site is close to Porto and there are many dive operators providing equipment or refresher lessons if required. This is an exhilarating dive site offering a unique insight into events of recent history. There are a number of other wreck sites and many general dive sites, in the waters around Porto and further north in Esposende making the area an ideal base for a diving break.

One of Portugal's best and most popular dive sites is the southern coastline of the Algarve region, characterised by sandy beaches, blue skies and idyllic fishing villages. The Algarve coast is long and varied so try to visit more than one of the main dive areas if possible. Some of the best places to stay for easy access to good diving are Sagres, Praia da Luz, Praia da Rocha, Albufeira and Tavira. For night dives Sagres, with its underwater caves and grottos, is an excellent site and Carvoeira offers some fine deep sea sites. For a truly unique dive experience you can even explore the wreck of a plane; an American B-24 bomber crashed into the sea near Faro during World War II. A good base to explore the many dive sites of the central and eastern Algarve is Albufeira, a well-developed holiday destination with a wide range of facilities and accommodation options. You can find everything from budget self-catering accommodation to modern hotel complexes, such as the popular Clube Humbria Albufeira, so most divers should be able to find something to suit their pocket.
